Transportation
Transportation is the flow of people. In 1928, city officials bought farmland to build an airport, later known as Los Angeles International Airport, so people would come to do business and take vacations. In 1965, the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) created to be in charge of the buses, car pooling, bike lanes, and rail systems. The MTA makes sure all these transportation means are fast and safe so people can get where they need to go. Despite all the other ways to get around, many people still prefer to drive cars. Los Angeles is known for their traffic jams. The government takes 25 of the worst intersections and improves them each year. People also walk to places because they do not want to deal with traffic problems.
Trade
Trade is the flow of goods. The Port of Los Angeles (pictured above) handles more ships and cargo than any other U.S. ports. Cargo is imported and exported to or from other U.S. ports and countries. Most trade coming from Japan goes through the Port of Los Angeles. Trade coming to or from Australia, Canada, Mexico, South America, and Southeast Asia also go through the Port of Los Angeles. Cargo also goes through the Los Angeles International Airport.
Communication
Communication is the flow of ideas. There are tons of ways to communicate including newspapers, magazines, radio, and the television. Topics they talk about include civil rights, pollution, surfing, and pottery making.
