The Los Angeles government is made up of a mayor, various city departments, and a City Council. The mayor and City Council are elected to serve a four-year term, but not more the two terms. The mayor appoints the head of city departments and commissioners, who oversee the city departments. The mayor also makes the budget. The City Council has 15 members and each member is elected to represent one of the city's districts. The City Council make the laws and approve budget. The Mayor can veto or reject the laws the council passes and the council can overrule the mayor's veto with a majority vote.
